eleneariel: (Fashion (surprise))
But today is the day people at my work are dressing up.

Here's a secret: Except for the half-price candy the day after and the excuse to dress up, I couldn't care less about Halloween. But if there's an excuse to wear a costume, count me in!

1. Aren't I a fabulous 1980s woman? And don't my shoulder pads look like I could just about fly away?
2. Getting this hair was SO MUCH FUN.
3. So was the makeup, actually.
4. In fact, the last picture reminds me of Faith Hill's early publicity stills, right down to the fake smile.

Conclusion: 1984 was a good year to be born in. But I am THIS GRATEFUL not to have become a teenager or adult in the 80s.

Day 302 )

costuming

eleneariel: (lady)
I just found out that we'll be wearing costumes Monday to work.

o_O (But fun.)

So the question is, who shall I be? Marian the Librarian is what seems most likely now, but what other literary person could I be with a minimum of costume-making? And a costume that would still allow me freedom of movement enough to actually...you know...work?

All suggestions welcome.

(I would love to wear my hoops, but alas, I fear they are too wide for the stacks. Also, I haven't figured out how to sit down in them yet. o_O)
eleneariel: (eowyn)
*whispers*

I think I got the job! That is, he didn't say "you're hired!" but he said "we'll start working on a schedual for you, and can you come volunteer a day or two before then, and how soon can you start?"

*faints of happiness, because she never really believed she'd be able to work at a library*

So tomorrow I'm getting my drivers license. Unless I fail the test. *whimper* *doesn't like driving with strangers* It will make it very nice, though, because I can then go back to see RotK as many times as I please without making mom hang around for 3 1/2 hours.

Yes, for those very few who Have Not Heard: I saw it. I cried through most of it. I love Miranda Otto's Eowyn more then ever. Aragorn is so the best king. It's the greatest movie trilogy of all time, even with it's faults, such as the Emerald City of...oh, that's Minas Morgul, is it?

I went proudly in costume, in my dress and cape that probably have about 20 yards of (thankfully cheap) material between them...I got interviewed by the paper, because I was such good publicity, and I was told to "come back and see it as many times as you want for free!" I hope to take advantage of that. Soon.

Probably not before my Very Important Trip, though, where I shall navigate airports like a pro, though never having done it before in my life, and shall be the belle of the ball, despite never having danced until the day before, and meet any dear people (such as [livejournal.com profile] melyndie and my dear friend Gwen B.!)

[livejournal.com profile] equuschick, I promise you're next on the list of People I'll Actually Pay To Visit. In some form or manner, we shall indeed meet. And eat cornish hens while *consults Christmas card* drinking coffee and watching LotR and talking about Bad Boys and Cads.
eleneariel: (luthien)
New icon, in honor of RotK which will be out in a matter of WEEKS (ahh! where did the time go?!). For without Luthien, Arwen, bless her heart, would not be. Eh.

I'm sitting here with my fingers freezing, barely able to type. The sun had once again hid itself from my longing gaze. However, I am just about ready to go for a pleasant stroll through an old graveyard (That's the trouble with our church--it's not old enough to have Old Tombs)

*later* Enjoyed it quite a lot. I should go down there more often.

Last week I attended a funeral. Last year, on the very same day, I attended a funeral. This is freaky. And the men who died exactly a year apart lived just a half mile from each other.

I find people facinating. I would really like to get inside people's minds and really know what motivates and drives them, why they act the way they do. Unfortunantly, all but the closest friends don't take kindly to this sort of intrusion. And I can't even understand myself a lot of the time, so I guess I don't have any business probing anyway.

I finished my Elvish costume yesterday; dress, cape, headdress, everything. I'll wear it to see Return of the King in just a few weeks, and then again when I see it with Gwen B. on New Years Day. At some point in time pictures will doubtless be uploaded here.

Mm. I'm off to post on my GreatestJournal (literarymusings) about a disapointing book, a great book, and Steven Lawhead's newest.
