So...everything is pretty much normal. I've been (almost) accosted by the Witnessing Dude several times, but Sandra has been faithful to rescue me. I learned about Sears Headings, which no one uses anymore, but since they're part of library history I like to know. I've completed the index and soon I'll start working on revamping the vertical files, which no one uses because even the librarians don't know what's in them. If we knew, we could point people to them. So I intend to Know.

At home, I'm just sort of barely-there. Next week should be better. I think I'm only down for 15 hours of work instead of 35 like this week. That's good, because my research paper is due a week from yesterday and of course it's not exactly done yet.

I did, however, finish reading Going Postal, Terry Pratchett's brand new book, in two days. It was excellent and I will write in more detail about it at some point in [livejournal.com profile] _bibliotaph_.

And finally, on a purely personal note: a milestone has been reached. I kept a coat of pale violet nail polish on my fingernails for four days in a row. That would be the first time that's ever happened. Next time I'm feeling impractical and girly I'll see I can make it to five days without chipping it off. *grin*

Which failed miserably. Yesterday I decided to put a couple coats of clear fingernail polish on my fingernails (novel place to put it, eh?), to see if I have finally matured enough to HAVE IT STAY ON. As opposed to mindlessly and stupidly chipping it off. I was hoping that I'd grown out of this silly habit, and could thus justify wearing colored polish.

But no. By the end of the day every nail had chipped, and some were gone completely. I use my nails for too many things...to pry, scrape, etc. too many things. And once they are chipped I CANNOT HELP making it even worse.

So Mari stays bare-fingernailed. I hate to admit it, but it would be incredibly stupid to put on polish that would 1) be gone in a matter of hours or 2) have to be touched up constantly. Gar.

This evening I'm going directly from work to the banquet. It's an hour away, so I don't have time to go home first. =\ Thank goodness for long-lasting makeup...

Girls grow up so fast these days...

Six year old Heidi brought a little compact of blush to class last Sunday. She said her mom had given it to her because it was almost empty. Every ten minutes she took it out of her purse and industriously brushed copper-colored blush all over her face (including forehead, chin, and nose! ; )) Fortunantly she's half Mexican, so her skin is already the color of copper. It was cute, but it made me wonder why girls--little girls at that--want makeup at such early ages. Not that I'm against makeup. I certainly wear a fair amount. But I'm 19, not six! And I certainly didn't care a whit about it six. Something just feels wrong to me when I see little girls looking and acting like much older almost-women.

**Other Random Stuff**

*Note: I get annoyed when people pronouce genuine as gen-u-wine. I forget who kept doing that today, but I felt like slapping them each time.

*Kuzco (our kitten) is healing nicely from his Mysterious Wound and has gained quite a bit of weight. Instead of being skin and bones, he's getting a fat little tummy! He's so cute. I haven't had such a playful pet in ages.
