eleneariel: (pirate's life)

Here I've been thinking pirates lately, for no real reason, and then I found out that Talk LIke A Pirate Day is coming up in less than a month, and THEN I randomly came across the most perfect lady pirate shirt ever, and so I bought it.

It makes me happy because it has Big Sleeves (think Eowyn) and laces up the front with a leather thong.

And then I found out that Stephen Lawhead - only one of my favorite authors in the world - has a brand new book. And it's about Robin Hood! Those you who know Lawhead will know just what kind of treatment the legend will likely receive at his hands. I'm so excited. So I ordered it tonight from Amazon...along with a hardcover edition of Jane Austin's complete novels.

I am so excited about these things.

I am adjusting to the new work area and desk. I think I like it.

Oh, that is SO awesome! I want pictures. That sounds like exactly the sort of shirt I would get. =D

I just recently discovered Stephen Lawhead, and I LOVE his writing. The only one I've read so far is In the Halls of the Dragon King, but I definitely plan on reading more.

Oh, and I keep forgetting to tell you! I fell in love with Terry Pratchett. I bought Thief of Time and absolutely loved it! I just finished Soul Music, which I really liked as well. I think he's one of my new favorite authors. =D Thank you for introducing me to him!

Read the Albion series! I'd rank them among his best work.

Mari, I'm totally celebrating Talk Like A Pirate Day.

That makes three of us so far!

Hmm....perhaps an eyepatch for you?

Albion is truely wonderful.

WooHOO! *pumps fist* Another hapless bystander engulfed by Pratchett conquest for the Discworld!

I'm so glad you liked him, can you tell?

As for Lawhead, I second [livejournal.com profile] jmcphers suggestion of the Albion series - it is the most amazingly celtic set of books I've ever come across - but also the Pendragon Cycle. 'Tis about King Arthur, but in a new and different and wonderful (and long) way.

I'll definitely have to read those, then! I love anything celtic. And you can't go wrong with King Arthur! So many books to read, so little time! =D

Oh yes, you'll definitely love them. It's a five book series, but worth every minute.

Hey, do you know about www.chainreading.com? It's a handy way to keep track of all the books you want to read. I used to make little notes of titles and lost half of them (or didn't find them til years later), so it's helped me tremendously. My user name is Mari, btw, in case you want to peek at my book lists. =)

Oh, and I'm so jealous that you found a hardcover edition of Jane Austen's complete novels! My roommate brought one home from England for herself, and I'm SO jealous. I'm collecting her works in bits and pieces, but someday I'll have a book like that. *dreams* =D Hope you enjoy all your lovely purchases!

It was in Amazon's bargain books for only $12-something. *squee*

I have just a couple of the paperbacks, so I've really been wanting the whole set. =) Hey, do you need either S&S, P&P, or Northinger Abbey? Probably not, as those are the two everybody seems to collect first, but if you want them, speak up. I'd be happy to send them to you.

Wow, that's a great bargain. Good shopping!

Strangely enough, I only have Sense & Sensibility of those titles. I used to have Pride and Prejudice, but I borrowed it to someone and I haven't seen it since- silly me, I know. That's really sweet of you, and if you're serious, I would absolutely love them. =D

I'm absolutely serious! I found Northinger Abbey tonight while searching for something else, and I can dig out P&P tomorrow and mail them out Monday. They're just paperbacks, you understand, but if you want them, email me your name & address: librarian dot mari at gmail dot com

(I'm paranoid of spambots. =))
