-- there is something to be said for the satisfaction one feels when one has returned from an hour in the garden with buckets of tomatoes and okra and cucumbers.
Also, wearing cargo pants when one takes an early morning walk comes in very handy. I returned just now with pockets full of wild grapes.
I smell fresh grape juice in my future!

Date: 2006-08-18 11:31 pm (UTC)I didn't get my patio garden in this year.
I am sort of sad about that.

Date: 2006-08-18 11:36 pm (UTC)It's sort of my garden. My dad does almost all of the work, so technically it should be his. =) I used to be involved with it (planting and tending and picking and canning and freezing, oh my!) before I started working full time.

Date: 2006-08-18 11:42 pm (UTC)I'll miss a garden if I move into an apartment or something. =\ At least I must keep my herb pots.

yeah, and pretend to be stoned, at this point.
you can do a lot with a patio garden if you have time to fiddle with it every day.
I had some pretty creditable peppers and lettuce. Potted basil and parsley do really well, but I can't keep oregano, thyme or rosemary alive in a pot. I wonder if it's chlorine in the water or something like that.
My sister said that mint did well in a pot, but it would probably grow on the moon with a little encouragement.

Date: 2006-08-18 11:55 pm (UTC)I've had good luck with basil and chives, and my orgegano plant simply overflows it's pot every year. It's amazing. I think mint would grow in any condition!

Date: 2006-08-18 11:59 pm (UTC)Speaking of movie sequels . . .
I wonder if I need to change the soil ph on the oregano. It does good for a bit, and then withers and dies quickly.
My sister grew a regular pine tree of rosemary, and one of the roomates, roadsquish, has a bonsai rosemary. I haven't had any success with it, so it's probably my fault.
