I feel just a little like Alice
Jan. 6th, 2009 07:41 amLeggings are, I am told, quite passé for this season - but do I care? Not hardly. And combined with a short jersey dress, they make up one of my favorite outfits. They're comfortable and warm, and I can crawl, sit on the floor, stand on a table, or climb on a ladder (sometimes I do all of the above in a day at the library) without worrying about flashing people. I think we'd all agree that's a good thing.
It's also become my standard winter travel wardrobe. For the PLA conference in Minneapolis last year, where I knew I'd be doing a lot of walking downtown in the frigid air, I took two short jersey dresses (one red, one black), two pairs of leggings (one black, one grey), two shrugs for over the dresses (one black, one white) a cheery red wool peacoat/scarf/hat, and a pair of black ballet flats. In various combinations, this made up most of my wardrobe for the week, and I remained comfortable, warm, and chic. AND it all fit in one carry on bag!
(That's also the trip where I got propositioned by a very dignified elderly gentleman who talked constantly about his wife, but that's another story.)
Incidentally, this is my it's-six-in-the-morning-i-haven't-had-coffee-and-you-expect-me-to-SMILE?! face. You'll be seeing it a lot.
