I am, in fact. Will wonders never cease.

I'm spending the weekend housesitting and dog/cat/cattle/horsesitting. After I close up the library at noon, I am going to do two million errands and then go 'home' and bake banana rum cookies and baked rum bananas. (Guess which two ingredients I have a lot of right now?) And a pork chop, which I need to find a recipe for, because, Behold, Mari has never made a pork chop. (Any advice on panfrying?)

I usually take right around an hour and 45 minutes to get ready to go to work in the morning. Apparently it's faster if I'm staying at somebody else's house (less distractions?). I was out the door this morning in record time, so I thought I'd do a few of those errands.

And Behold, Mari is NOT, in fact, the center of the universe. Just because I'm awake, I guess, doesn't mean anybody else is. I just can't understand why the stores I wanted to go to don't open at 7:00 on a Saturday morning.

So instead I got a mocha cappuccino and stopped at all the garage sales I could find. I netted a beautiful cake platter, a crystal vase, several picture frames which I intend to paint black, and a cunning little pan that will bake eight mini loaves of banana bread at one time. (squee!) All for the grand total of $5.

Life is grand.

Do you have a broiler pan? My mom broils pork chops. She just puts oil and garlic salt and pepper on them. It's really good.

I'm not sure if Edith has a broiler or not. I'll check. Thanks. =)

Let me know if she does and I'll tell you how long she cooks them, etc.

Okay, that works. It's probably about the same amount of time, anyway. :)

I arose almost three hours before my normal Saturday waking time this morning. The early world is strange. But in a good sort of way. (-:

It is strange.

On the other hand, I suppose midnight is a strange hour for some people.

But, eh... not for me. (-:

Yeah... it's not "strange" until about 2 AM for me. :-)

Even though I'm not really a "morning person" per se, sometimes I really enjoy getting up early on Saturdays and doing things. It's like a parallel universe that exists until 9 AM, and then vanishes. :-)

I know! The air has a different feel to it.

Interestingly, pork chops are one of the only things I know how to cook (or at least have attempted to). I probably don't cook them as well as most people though. I basically just plop the meat on a pan and cook both sides. I don't even really worry about oil. There's probably some better ways though.

Do rub salt on it or anything? Some recipes I found said to coat it with a little flour and seasonings, but I'm not sure I'll like the way the outside turns out that way.

No, I haven't salted it, but I'll usually eat it with bbq sauce or steak sauce or something. LOL, my eating style is probably not the classiest in the world. :-) I've actually discovered you can make a pretty decent sandwhich out of thin porkchops and some bbq sauce, although the meat will be a lot tougher than most sandwhich meat. :-)
