My newest Harry Potter theory

So there are only three ways Harry Potter can end this July.

1. Harry kills Voldemort and in the process, dies. This is the only real way the story can end satisfactorily, much as I hate the thought. Pure epic tragedy.

2. Harry kills Voldemort and lives. Yeah, and what? Lives happily ever after? Becomes the Dark Arts teacher? Marries Ginny and has 16 kids? Riiiight. The only way this would work is if he selflessly renounced all worldly pleasures and spent the rest of his solitary life fighting evil.

3. Harry kills Voldemort and in the process becomes the new Dark Lord. Dum-dum-de-dum: Meet Harry Pottermort! And thus a new series is born, solving the problem of what the heck J. K. Rowling is going to write next.

I can just see it now. We only thought the Harry Potter mania would be over. Now it can continue another good ten years, with some other hapless young wizard or witch caught up in world-impacting circumstances and fighting a nearly invincible evil.

I really can't wait to find out.

Hey, I just had a thought. What if #1 is the correct theory, with something of a resurrection theme? Weird.

You mean ... kind of like Aslan?

Now that's a cool idea!

Hmm....I hadn't thought of that. I was assuming he'll die, too, but that's an interesting idea.

whoah, sister of mine, you're clever. I hadn't thought of that...

*rolls eyes* Don't sound so surprised. =P

I was only surprised by the idea, not by the fact my sister was clever. I wish I'd thought of it. :-P

Oh man, I got it!
#3 happens, but then at the end of the second series Harry Potter is redeemed, ala Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in the Return of the Jedi! Man, that almost seems inevitable, and I've never even read these books! :-D

[identity profile] eattheolives.livejournal.com 2007-05-25 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha! You may well be right. :D

I think #1 is the greatest possibility. But Harry Pottermort would be awesome. ;)

(Speaking of which... I dreamt about Harry Potter last night. How random is that?)

Harry He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, you mean? ;)

Whoa. have you been rereading the books or something? (I really need to read the last one sometime before July so I can be back in the groove...)

[identity profile] savetheolives.livejournal.com 2007-05-25 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I hadn't even thought about Harry Potter for months! Weeeird.

Meet Harry Pottermort!

*cracks up* Y'know, I'm sure it was no coincidence that the two last names can fit together like that....;) ;)

I think the first option is the most likely, but with J.K. Rowling, you never know. Don't all epic stories end like that? So I'm half-hoping she has something different planned, though I have no idea what I'd like it to be, heh.

Btw, in my opinion, the only way a "Harry lives" ending would work is if the book cuts out immediately after he kills Voldemort. But then we wouldn't find out what happens to Ron and Hermione and Ginny and Fred and George...and that would make cause an uproar. LOL

[identity profile] eattheolives.livejournal.com 2007-05-25 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
It seems the most likely, and although it's "typical" for epics, it's not really typical for children's books, so ... I don't know, she could go either way if she wants to be unusual.

I just can't see a happy ending for Harry. Poor likkle Harry.

#4. Potter kills Voldemort, realizes that he's now poisoned with the same evil, and kills himself in the ultimate act of self-sacrifice to save the world from having another Dark Lord.

You heard it here first.

[identity profile] eattheolives.livejournal.com 2007-05-25 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, brilliant! Basically a combiation of #1 and #3, with a twist. Actually, the self-sacrifice includes themes of #2, so ... wow, yes, that would make a great ending. Ohhh the tragedy.

[identity profile] windandtherain.livejournal.com 2007-05-25 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
From the personality of JK Rowling, she seems like the type to have Harry realize that only in death is there victory...but then, I think she knows everyone suspects that and she likes to prove people wrong. ;-) Eeek, I can't wait to find out either. Come quickly, July!

[identity profile] eattheolives.livejournal.com 2007-05-25 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
That's why I can't decide which scenario is more likely, and therefore my brain is about to explooooode!
