Gone with the Wind as a  Broadway musical. With Hugh Jackman. PLEASE NO.

I really want these books:

Type: the secret history of letters

King Arthur: dark age warrior and mythic hero

Annnnd, by way of saying something useful, my day was made when a patron came in and told me that her husband had absolutely loved the book I'd recommended to him (The Killer Angels).  :) Other than that, I am tired and busy, but hopeful, and my head is full of Scottish drinking songs.

(The Tannahill Weavers ROCK.)

My dear friend Ebonie will be deliriously happy. Hugh Jackman is her future husband. Only he's already married and he doesn't know yet that he intended for Ebonie :).

Yes, I've got to admit that I can't see it either. But his voice is lovely. He'll do a good job of singing and dancing :).

Which is the point: Rhett Butler should NOT SING!

Methinks I am too attached the the screen version. =)

Gone with the Wind as a musical? What will they think of next!
I shall have to look up those books at my library.;)
Scottish Drinking songs? I know some, due to a Civil War tape a friend had ("and its all for me grog, me jolly, jolly grog, all gone for beer and tobacco...." lol).
What fun that someone appreciated your recommendation!

Currently my favorite is:

Whiskey, you're the devil, you're leadin' me astray
Over hills and mountains and to Americae
You're sweeter, stronger, decenter, you're spunkier than tae
O whiskey, you're my darlin' drunk or sober

I used to listen to the Tannahill Weavers when I was on my celtic/scottish/irish/etc. kick a few years ago (prompted by Great Big Sea, whose songs I sent to you on that Corrs mix CD).

I think they've even played at the Weston Irish Fest around here? Or the KC Irish fest? I think the Weston one. I know, right? They're Scottish. What are they doing at the Irish Fest?

Well, if the Elders can play the Scottish fest, I suppose a Scottish band can play the Irish fest. People are very discriminating, so long as the music is good.

Btw, do you happen to know when the Irish and/or Scottish fests might be?

Yeah, I do, actually!

The Irish Fest is Labor day (Aug. 31st-Sept. 2nd) weekend and the Scottish Highland Games are June 8th and 9th. I'm planning on going to both, definitely. There are a ton of good artists set up for the Irish fest already.

I just passed on some of the Great Big Sea songs to a new coworker who I have found is quite the kindred spirit. :) She's into pirates and celticness and all manner of good things. I'm thinking she'll like those songs!

If you like the Tannahill Weavers and Great Big Sea you should probably also like:
The Proclaimers.
Enya.
The Chieftans.
James Galway.

Love all of them except The Proclaimers, who I had never heard of before. But now I have, and as soon as I find some of their music, I feel rather confident that I'll enjoy them as well. :)

It's not so much that their music is "folky" in the Irish or Scottish tradition but that they are VERY Scottish. I still think you'd enjoy their music though. They had two pretty popular songs on the US billboard charts.

Sounds good. :) There's actually not too much of music that I don't like, provided it's not hip-hop or rap.
