Woohoo! I'm with you, though, I wasn't really into jazz until I took a class on it to fulfill a Humanities hole to get my degree. I'm so glad I took that class over Women in Literature. Best. Class. Ever.
Not only did I do a complete 180 on my view of jazz, but I learned a lot about its history and beginnings, which made me get even more into it. It doesn't hurt that the city I live near was a staple jazzers pitstop. (Though I had no idea before of this fact.)
I'm still a white bread swing gal (Benny Goodman!), but I really appreciate the more avant-garde bee-bop and later stuff now. Even though some of that stuff I don't think could possibly ever be enjoyed unless the listener (and player?) was inebriated in some form and I'm not that into it.
Can I use this icon when talking about jazz?
