Re: results of last night's poll, apparently it is not odd to seal your envelopes by licking them. I, of course, have done so all my life and have never considered that it might not be the norm, but suddenly I was thinking (always dangerous) and I was like, whoa, this is really weird. You mean all the letters I get in the mail have been LICKED?  That's sort of STRANGE! And so then I began to wonder if I was just backwards and behind the times and nobody actually did anything so barbaric as lick their envelopes anymore.

These are the sorts of things I think about.

You know... I too have thought about that. Especially when I'm opening a letter. I usually open them with my finger, so right on the part people lick. I try not to think about it too much though. But sometimes I hope who ever liked the envelope wasn't sick. ;-)

Eww, licking envelopes is for squares. I usually dip my finger in water and smear it over the adhesive. I can't stand the taste and feel of licking the envelope. It always makes me cringe.
you know, there was an episode of Seinfeld where George's fiance actually died from licking too many cheap envelopes. They were for their wedding invitation. Moral of the story: don't be the one who licks the envelopes. There are better, more civil ways.

You know, I was just thinking about that the other day. I needed to lick an envelope, but first I had to rinse the remains of a mouthful of chocolate out. As I was standing by the sink gulping water, I thought of how ridiculous and gross it is that people lick envelopes...and then I licked the envelope.

Hi, Emily! I've had the same problem with the chocolate, lol. A chocolate smeared envelope just doesn't look good.
