crystallia wins Gold Stars and whatever other virtual accolades I can heap upon her, for behold, I have in my possession a Cranberries CD and it is Good. I knew nothing about the band when I first listened to it, and I kept thinking, "gosh, what a classic Celtic-sounding voice encased in such non-Celtic music," and lo and behold, it turns out the lead (only?) vocalist is from Ireland. She has the sound of the music I used to listen to on Thistle and Shamrock... I miss that program. Celtic music has the power to move me so deeply.
- I like dark wash jeans very much.
- I went for a spin in the new Mercedes. *geeky grin* I still haven't gotten a decent picture of it, but one will come along one of these days.

patrick___ asked me which was my favorite of the books I've read so far this year. I take this reading stuff Seriously, so I've taken some time to ponder and I believe I have come upon the answer: Malcolm Gladwell's The Tipping Point. I've read a whole bunch of good books, fiction and non, and it's so hard to pick favorites, but wow, that one kept me riveted. Go read it.
- Part of me wishes I was doing NaNo again this year, and the other part says "Been there, wrote that, got the novel to prove it."

Date: 2006-10-29 01:31 pm (UTC)Also, I love time travel in all forms.
I've read a couple other of her books and haven't enjoyed them nearly as much. Passage was okay, but I didn't understand what was going on and that always bothers me.

Date: 2006-10-29 07:23 pm (UTC)I just checked Passage out of the library yester day. I haven't started it yet, but I'll let you know in a few days if I understand it.

Date: 2006-10-29 03:17 pm (UTC)I cannot give that book enough superlatives - it was WONDERFUL. A fast read, too (I read it on the plane back from Georgia), but so interesting. You should start with his first one, though. It's called Blink and it's just as good.

Date: 2006-10-29 05:12 pm (UTC)He's not totally negative about it, but just kind of cynical about his premise I guess.
Blink sounds like an interesting book too!

Date: 2006-10-30 04:57 pm (UTC)Freakonomics was the same sort of thing, but I liked these two books a lot better.

Date: 2006-10-29 07:51 pm (UTC)I wish you were doing NaNoWriMo again this year, too! If only because this is my first year experiencing the trials of NaNo and might need a support system. ;) Of course, there's always the inspiration of you having completed it last year. :D
Isn't Malcolm Gladwell the same who wrote Blink? Or am I getting names confused?

Date: 2006-10-29 07:57 pm (UTC)Oh, I'd be happy to be your NaNo cheerleader! I really had a lot of fun doing it. The biggest thing for me was not to get behind - which meant doing about 1,500 words a day, I think - because I knew if I got behind I'd be discouraged and think I could never get done in time. I got it finished three days early. =D
Yup, Gladwell wrote both Blink and The Tipping Point. Good books, both.

Date: 2006-10-30 04:04 pm (UTC)-makes notes-
Don't get behind...1,500 words a day...don't get discouraged if you do get behind; keep plugging ahead...complete 50,000 words three days early...skip meals if necessary...don't sleep...if it can't be helped, dream of writing....
I think I may be adding my own, there.
