Public Service Announcements

I would just like to point out, for any who haven't noticed yet, that today is Friday the 13th.

ALSO, I just heard on the radio that the world was supposed to end today, but apparently it hasn't.

It was also supposed to end yesterday, but I guess that didn't work out either.

Which means that I have to go to work.

And under the "So good, it should be posted twice, and also because it fits with the theme of this post" category, I once again give you:

Some say the world will end in fire,

Year of the Book: Setting the record straight

(This should more properly go into the Year of the Book lock, but it does include a give-away, so I thought I'd leave it unlocked.)

The unenlightened might well assume that my pirate-love was born from the Pirates of the Caribbean fad that swept the world (and Johnny Depp into the hearts of countless teenage girls.) Kudos to the movies, which I love,  but I would like to set the record straight.

 

I fell in love with pirates when, at age 15, I read Daphne du Maurier's Frenchman's Creek.  

 

Just FYI.

The give-away: does anybody want a lovely hardback copy? I have two. I don't need two. Yes, I have three Gone with the Winds, but that's a different matter and I can explain myself if anybody's interested. But I don't need two Frenchman's Creeks, so free to a good home - one very well preserved hardback copy of indeterminate age, complete with slightly-cheesy 70s-style dust jacket art.
