eleneariel: (leaving)
Last night after I hung up I realized that theroretically I could pick up and go to Europe--next year, next month, next week. I have money. Time off could be dicey, but I could get it. My boss wouldn't stop me from going; she'd probably call it professional development and ask me to buy things for the culture box. My parents would be worried but wouldn't stop me. If I really wanted to, nothing could stop me. I could get online right now and order plane tickets and book hotel rooms. Three days from now I could be sitting in a trattoria in Rome drinking wine.

So why don't I?

Item: Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] pansyprincess!

There are three hundred and sixty-four days when you might get un-birthday presents ... and only one for birthday presents, you know. --Lewis Carroll

January Reading

1. Witches Abroad, Terry Pratchett
Self explanatory.

2. Gone With the Wind, Margaret Mitchell
Also self explanatory.

3. Much Ado About Nothing, Shakespeare
Saw the movie, which necessitated a reading of the orginal.

4. The Thief Lord, Cornelia Funke
Kristin and I agree: not as good as Inkheart etc. All the same, I thought it very orginal; half fantasy, half reality, delightfully Venetian.

5. Me Talk Pretty One Day, David Sedaris
Good except for bouts of bad language and discussions of personal lifestyle.

6. The Narnian, Alan Jacobs
A biography more of Lewis's imagination than his life; I liked the approach.
