Theoretically, I would give up pets of all sorts in order to promote maritial happiness. I would possibly eventually talk you into one cat, but only if you were really okay with it.
(The only thing I'm interested in owning on my own (Hagen is mine, all the other pets are family ones and Not Mine) is a cat, a single cat, I like dogs okay but ... eh, no. And cats are not so sheddy if you get the right kind and keep them brushed.)
