An Apology, with Embarressment

Having so loudly and publicly maligned it, it is only right that I equally loudly and publicly make this announcement:

Ladies and gentlemen, I, Marie, do hereby declare that I no longer hate jazz.

That is all.

*and the peasants rejoiced*
I'm glad, I should make you a Kenny G mix cd. Now if only Sarah would see the light...

[identity profile] eattheolives.livejournal.com 2006-11-08 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
I'm surprised she hasn't succumbed to your influence yet. ; )

Seriously, you don't know how big a thing this is. You haven't been around long enough to see me so roundly declare how much I hate and detest all forms of jazz.

[identity profile] wandering-flame.livejournal.com 2006-11-08 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
I've tried sending her some music and even threatening her, but she remains as stubborn as ever. I have gotten her into rock though. I consider that a good gain.

yeah, our relationship is in an infancy stage. So would you say that you now actually like Jazz, or can you just tolerate it? What made you change your mind?

[identity profile] ladyrita.livejournal.com 2006-11-08 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
It's ok, I still luv you.

[identity profile] eattheolives.livejournal.com 2006-11-08 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
Aww. *grateful sniffle*

[identity profile] eattheolives.livejournal.com 2006-11-08 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
(Sorry...bad tags or something in that first comment. We Try Again.)

I have had my mind changed by [livejournal.com profile] patrick___, who made me the awesomest mix cd of jazz ever, because he managed to find not just jazz that I could tolerate, but jazz I actually really, really like.

My mom almost had a heart attack from the shock. O_O

[identity profile] wandering-flame.livejournal.com 2006-11-08 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
Who's on it? Kenny G? Miles Davis? Isaac Hayes? Barry White?

Well I'm certainly glad you've come around. I love Jazz myself.

[identity profile] eattheolives.livejournal.com 2006-11-08 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't figure you for a jazz kind of guy. Hm.

[identity profile] eattheolives.livejournal.com 2006-11-08 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't figure you for a jazz kind of guy. Hm.

Try Stan Getz, Vine Guiaraldi Trio, Everything But the Girl, Dave Brubeck Quartet...

[identity profile] wandering-flame.livejournal.com 2006-11-08 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Most people are suprised by the music I listen to. You'd think at first that I'm one of those die hard rock and roll / heavy metal kind of guys. Which I am. But they're just one of many kinds of genres I like.

[identity profile] eattheolives.livejournal.com 2006-11-08 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
Variety is a good thing.

I used to say I liked every kind of music except for jazz and rap. I guess I'm down to just rap now, and come to think of it, there is that one song... ; )

[identity profile] eattheolives.livejournal.com 2006-11-08 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, I don't know what's up with my computer tonight and all these messed up comments...

[identity profile] wandering-flame.livejournal.com 2006-11-08 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
Which one? 50 cent? eminem? Ludacris? ;-)

[identity profile] sir-flute.livejournal.com 2006-11-08 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmm, it makes me curious, but I think I'll just leave it to you. Now we just need to get you into rap........

Can I use this icon when talking about jazz?

[identity profile] ransomedsea.livejournal.com 2006-11-08 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
Woohoo! I'm with you, though, I wasn't really into jazz until I took a class on it to fulfill a Humanities hole to get my degree. I'm so glad I took that class over Women in Literature. Best. Class. Ever.

Not only did I do a complete 180 on my view of jazz, but I learned a lot about its history and beginnings, which made me get even more into it. It doesn't hurt that the city I live near was a staple jazzers pitstop. (Though I had no idea before of this fact.)

I'm still a white bread swing gal (Benny Goodman!), but I really appreciate the more avant-garde bee-bop and later stuff now. Even though some of that stuff I don't think could possibly ever be enjoyed unless the listener (and player?) was inebriated in some form and I'm not that into it.

[identity profile] eattheolives.livejournal.com 2006-11-08 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
*blush*

eminem

But I'm not admitin' nothin'! And it's just one song!

Re: Can I use this icon when talking about jazz?

[identity profile] eattheolives.livejournal.com 2006-11-08 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
Hm, I should try listening tipsy sometime and see if it makes it even more enjoyable. ; )

Or maybe not.

[identity profile] radiantlove.livejournal.com 2006-11-08 11:08 am (UTC)(link)
*gasp* I've been starting to succumb too :-O
To that, and to some rap, and some country...
All 3 are genres I insisted I could never like.
heh.

[identity profile] savetheolives.livejournal.com 2006-11-08 11:47 am (UTC)(link)
HAHAHAHAHA.

Told you so.

[identity profile] eattheolives.livejournal.com 2006-11-08 12:54 pm (UTC)(link)
NO GLOATING ALLOWED!

*glare*

[identity profile] eattheolives.livejournal.com 2006-11-08 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Guess that's why we should never say never, eh?

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/patrick___/ 2006-11-08 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Kenny G? She said she dosen't hate jazz. ;-)

hehehehe

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/patrick___/ 2006-11-08 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
You like jazz too? :-)

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/patrick___/ 2006-11-08 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
=)
This must be my most successful mix CD ever!

Do your parents like jazz?

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/patrick___/ 2006-11-08 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, I bet it's the one with Dido in it, right? I actually liked that one because it was the first time I had ever heard Dido.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/patrick___/ 2006-11-08 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm afraid I can't help you learn to love rap. =) I only have a small amount of music that could be considered hip hop of any variety, and it's not that great. Although I do sometimes enjoy some older hip-hop, or modern hip hop if it's musical enough (and not offensive). But it's really rare when I can stand anything that's considered plain old rap.

[identity profile] eattheolives.livejournal.com 2006-11-08 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I like Dido, but I'm not even sure I've heard that one. I was thinking of one he wrote about his daughter..."When I'm Gone" is the title, I think. I mean, yeah, he's a completely unattractive and usually disgusting person but even that kind of man can be heartbreaking singing rapping about a little daughter.

[identity profile] eattheolives.livejournal.com 2006-11-08 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
It's the not-offensive part that's so hard to find. Sometimes I hear some songs that I think are kind of neat, until I figure out what the words are. =P

[identity profile] eattheolives.livejournal.com 2006-11-08 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd say they're indifferent. They don't listen to it, but they don't hate it.

[identity profile] eattheolives.livejournal.com 2006-11-08 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
*smothered laughter*

[identity profile] mrs617.livejournal.com 2006-11-08 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahahaha!

Oh yeah!!!

[identity profile] greenhornet.livejournal.com 2006-11-09 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Kenny G is NOT Jazz!!!!!
It's easy listening!

[identity profile] wandering-flame.livejournal.com 2006-11-09 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Kenny's official genre is Smooth Jazz / Contemporary Adult. Which of course can also be considered easy listening. :-P

[identity profile] wandering-flame.livejournal.com 2006-11-09 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
Was it the letter to stan one?

[identity profile] eattheolives.livejournal.com 2006-11-09 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
I'm curious why my announcment garnered such a response. =D Are you pro-jazz too?

[identity profile] eattheolives.livejournal.com 2006-11-09 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
Since I'm not sure what you're talking about, probably not. ; )

[identity profile] radiantlove.livejournal.com 2006-11-09 12:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup, apparently so. Dreadfully humbling, ain't it?

[identity profile] savetheolives.livejournal.com 2006-11-09 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not my most favorite thing, but I do enjoy it, yes. :)

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/patrick___/ 2006-11-13 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you have any favorite jazz artists or songs?

[identity profile] savetheolives.livejournal.com 2006-11-13 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh... I like Ella Fitzgerald. Other than that, I don't really know anyone else. :)

[identity profile] mrs617.livejournal.com 2006-11-17 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
Definitely!
