Why can't they make sticks that don't taste like sticks?

It's so disappointing to get to the end of a wonderful ice cream bar and the last licks to get every drop of icecreamy goodness off the popsicle stick fill the mouth with a resounding taste of wood. It would be better to forego the last bit of ice cream and preserve the delicious taste, but I never do...because this time it might not taste like a stick.
